Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital on Saturday afternoon following abdominal pain, is responding well to the treatment. Earlier, reports stated that the actor might have to remain hospitalised for at least a week. However, it has now been confirmed in the latest Lilavati Hospital bulletin that Bachchan's tests don't indicate any abnormality and medicines are working just fine.

"He has an intestinal obstruction. He is responding well to the medication. The doctors have requested for 48 to 72 hours of observation. So, we will keep him in hospital for 48 to 72 hours," said Abhishek Bachchan while assuring fans of father's stable condition.

Bachchan, who turned 66 yesterday, was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in the afternoon "with the history of abdominal pain, which has been relieved by medicine", a hospital statement said.

Bachchan, who was at the time celebrating his birthday at his bungalow in Juhu, was first rushed to the Nanavati Hospital after complaining of abdominal pain and breathlessness.

He was then shifted to the Lilavati Hospital where he continues to be under observation. Bachchan was being treated in the suite number 1101 on the 11th floor of the hospital.

The megastar "has undergone blood investigation and CT of the abdomen, reports of which are awaited", the statement said, adding further treatment will be decided on the basis of the reports.

His wife Jaya, daughter Shweta Nanda, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya were attending to the senior Bachchan in the hospital.

Previously, Amitabh was operated upon in 2005 for Diverticulitis. This time he has been diagnosed with tentative incisional hernia. It is a result of an incompletely healed surgical wound, the result of an overworked schedule of the Bollywood legend after his operation in 2005.
