Out Tanushree, In Celina!

Not long back, Tanushree Dutta was replaced by Rakhi Sawant in ‘Horn Ok Pleasse’ owing to her problems with Nana Patekar. The history here seems to repeat itself coz, once again, Tanushree has been ousted from a film and replaced by Celina Jaitley this time. The movie here in question is Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision’s ‘Run Bhola Run’.

It seems that Tanushree had shot for the film for two days but was apparently not happy with the production company and had started throwing tantrums. The members did not take to this attitude problem kindly. So it was Out Tanushree and in Celina. Celina has already done a shot for the film at Essel World.

Celina confirmed that she is working on the film. She said, “I have started shooting for Run Bhola Run.I have heard so much about Neeraj Vohra and his working style. I’m looking forward to having a great time on the sets.”

Parag Desai, the official spokesperson of Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, said, “Tanushree had some combination dates issues, so Tanushree is no longer part of the film. We thought of replacing her with Celina as we have worked with her in Golmaal Returns. The film is fast racing towards completion.”

However, Tanushree Dutta said, “There were no problems during the shooting of Run Bhola Run. I had to opt out of the film as there were date issues. The film got delayed and I could not accommodate the dates due to my prior commitments. I had shot for the film only for a day and that too only one hour, and not for two days. I have very good working relations with Ashtavinayak as I have done Bhaagam Bhag with them earlier. We have been trying to work together but I guess it’s jinxed. We have parted ways amicably and will definitely work together in another film in the future.”

SRK wants to do a superhero flick for his son

Seems the bombing of ‘Drona’ at box-office has not affected the creativity of some people. So, after Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan, it is now Shahrukh Khan who is all set to do a superhero flick which is going to be a modern fantasy film aiming at kids and families. The film to be directed by Anubhav Sinha is titled ‘Ra 1’ and will be set in a modern setting. SRK will try to incorporate talented Hollywood technicians along with the SFX team from his own production house to be part of his dream project.

The techno-savvy superstar wants to make this film for his son Aryan, who loves superhero films and is a big fan of Hrithik Roshan’s movies ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ and ‘Krrish’.
Shahrukh and his son Aryan were also present at the premiere of ‘Drona’ earlier this month. Goldie is reportedly planning ‘Drona 2’ and will dedicate the movie to SRK’s son and his own son Ranvir.

Why Is Diya Mirza Angry?

diya-mirza.jpg

Diya Mirza who made her debut in Bollywood in 2001 after winning the Miss Asia Pacific Pageant in 2000, is still struggling to find a strong foothold in the industry. In the seven years of her career she has failed to deliver even a single memorable performance. Her repeated failure has led to her disappearance from the circuit for sometime and for that she is really angry with the industry.

“It was important for me to back off from films. I started my career on a good note with big banners, good producers and good actors, but the films didn’t do too well. We live in an industry (Bollywood) that runs on a herd mentality.

It functions only on the number of successful films you have, not your talent,” Diya said

Nevertheless Diya’s kitty is reasonably full with Acid Factory, Johnny Mastana, Alibaug, Kaun Bola and Kisaan.

“I need to find my own foothold. Even if I do a small film, I need to explore myself now. Whatever I’m doing right now is satisfying me both personally and professionally. People will see a tremendous change in my upcoming films. I am working very hard to get it right this time,” she adds.

Sorry, wrong number

The opening song, as Salman Khan storms on to stage and stomps his way through the extremely catchy Boom Boom makes you want to whistle, but be warned — it’s the only time you will want to do so. The rest of the film makes you wish you had not answered this wrong number.

For the most part, the script stays close to Chetan Bhagat’s book, barring that Katrina Kaif shares the story of six individuals and one night at a call centre when they receive a call from God with Salman Khan at an air base waiting lounge and not on a train journey. The first hour is spent establishing the characters and their uninteresting backstories. The film is so slow that you feel like you have endured the entire night shift, in real time, with this technically challenged and emotionally stunted group of call centre employees.

The dialogues are juvenile like this gem: “Dad, don’t clutter my mailbox like you have cluttered my life. I don’t want your attachment or your file attachments.” OK, maybe Bhagat deserves a wolf whistle here — but only if he is willing to share it with the costume designer who conjured Eesha Koppikar’s ensemble. A denim mini skirt teamed with leopard spot stockings and calf-high boots is hardly regulation wear for a night shift call centre employee.

Once the call from God gets through (the only call that might not suffer from poor network and call drops), the message from above is lost within the arduous screenplay and ham and cheese performances. Hello turns into a Rang De Basanti for call centre employees, rising up against arrogant Americans and infecting their systems with a virus. But the reward is nothing noble — it’s just another tactic for capitalistic gain and job security.

The director’s lack of grasp on the tone and intention of the film shows in the irregular graph of the performances. While Amrita Arora, Gul Panag, Eesha and Sharman Joshi keep their performances controlled, Sohail Khan rehashes the same old tricks; then there’s the extremely irritating and superfluous hip-hopping tech-support chap played by Suresh Menon and boss man Mr Baskhi played by Dalip Tahil who’s stuck in 80s’ style of acting.

Hello is likely to appeal only to those who have enjoyed Chetan Bhagat’s One Night @ The Call Centre (incidentally, the author does not make a cameo appearance in the film). If you do not fall in that category, you might end up singing an alternative variation of The Beatles’ song: “You say Hello, I say goodbye….”

Lilavati Hospital: Big B recovering well; to be back home in few days

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital on Saturday afternoon following abdominal pain, is responding well to the treatment. Earlier, reports stated that the actor might have to remain hospitalised for at least a week. However, it has now been confirmed in the latest Lilavati Hospital bulletin that Bachchan's tests don't indicate any abnormality and medicines are working just fine.

"He has an intestinal obstruction. He is responding well to the medication. The doctors have requested for 48 to 72 hours of observation. So, we will keep him in hospital for 48 to 72 hours," said Abhishek Bachchan while assuring fans of father's stable condition.

Bachchan, who turned 66 yesterday, was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in the afternoon "with the history of abdominal pain, which has been relieved by medicine", a hospital statement said.

Bachchan, who was at the time celebrating his birthday at his bungalow in Juhu, was first rushed to the Nanavati Hospital after complaining of abdominal pain and breathlessness.

He was then shifted to the Lilavati Hospital where he continues to be under observation. Bachchan was being treated in the suite number 1101 on the 11th floor of the hospital.

The megastar "has undergone blood investigation and CT of the abdomen, reports of which are awaited", the statement said, adding further treatment will be decided on the basis of the reports.

His wife Jaya, daughter Shweta Nanda, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya were attending to the senior Bachchan in the hospital.

Previously, Amitabh was operated upon in 2005 for Diverticulitis. This time he has been diagnosed with tentative incisional hernia. It is a result of an incompletely healed surgical wound, the result of an overworked schedule of the Bollywood legend after his operation in 2005.

Akshay Kumar to play the lead in ‘Komagata Maru’

Oscar nominated director Deepa Mehta has signed Akshay Kumar to play the lead in her next film, ‘Komagata Maru’. There will be other Hollywood actors in the film and Akki will play the lead Gurdit Singh.

Big B was the first choice for the film but he couldn’t do it since it is a Canadian Production and their government expects the actors to have a Canadian citizenship. The film is being produced by Hamilton-Mehta Production Inc. in association with Akshay Kumar’s home production, Hari Om Entertainment

Komagata Maru is an epic film based on a true story surrounding the voyage of the ship ‘Komagata Maru’ from India to Vancouver in the early part of the last century with 376 passengers on board seeking a new life in the promise land.

It is a film of high level government intrigue, duplicity, racism, spying, military engagements, court battles, sedition, and assassination. It is a journey of one man’s courage that challenged the largest empire in the world. Set in the year 1914, the film spans two continents. It bears open the heroism of Gurdit Singh, who dares to have an impossible dream- a life of freedom, equality, and dignity. The film also depicts the martyrdom of Mewa Singh.

Akshay Kumar said, “I’m not used to working with the Oscar nominated directors so it is a great privilege to work with Deepa Mehta. The subject of this film has moved me, as it is a true representation and a testimony to human struggles for freedom, justice and equality. I want to portray this real life tragedy to the world identifying how injustice was done to innocent people.

It is an hour for me to play one of the bravest Sikhs, Gurdit Singh, in this tragic forgotten moment in history. I salute those brave souls who sacrificed their lives for justice and equality today.”
